MAIS, the M. A. Ideal School, is on a mission to provide opportunities to get quality education for under privileged (Low income family) students the academic skills, intellectual habits, and qualities of character necessary to succeed at all levels of Nursery to 10th Class, college and the competitive world beyond. Finishing its 27 years,
MAIS was founded by Mohammed Anwar in Kishan Bagh, Hyderabad in 1987 and has grown to 8 schools in 2 districts (Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy Districts). Serving nearly 4,000 children and an additional 1,500 alumni in college and beyond. As we teach our students, there are no shortcuts on the path to college graduation. Students achieve their dreams by following two important rules: Work hard. Be nice. MAIS students work hard by spending more time on task than many of their peers. They are in class from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and on Friday from 9.00 am to 12.30 pm. They have extra learning opportunities after school hours. Nevertheless, at MAIS we believe it is just as important to be nice as it is to work hard. MAIS schools develop character traits that empower students to become ethical leaders, productive citizens, and loyal friends..
MAIS, the M. A. Ideal School, will catalyze the transformation of the community it serves by providing excellent education to every child and expand up to 50 schools by 2025.
This will happen through building strong leadership team, value based education, using best practices to educate children and working with parents in a manner that empowers them to eradicate the economic and social injustice that exists in the community today.
Guiding our work is a commitment to teaching our students to work hard and be nice. We are building and educating the compassionate leaders of tomorrow. In that sense, academic lessons at MAIS integrate values and model behavioral expectations that reflect our school values.
Across MAIS we have adopted five core values that are reinforced by our beliefs and operating norms. In our work and lives, we seek to honour, commit, persist, excel, and enjoy.
MAIS also share a core set of operating principles known as the Five Pillars.
High Expectations: MAIS have clear and measurable high expectations for academic achievement and conduct that make no excuses for students’ backgrounds. Students, parents, teachers, and staff create and reinforce a culture of achievement and support through a range of formal and informal rewards and consequences for academic performance and behaviour.
More Time on Task: MAIS know that there are no shortcuts when it comes to success in academics and life. With an extended school day, week, and year, students have more time in the classroom to acquire the academic knowledge and skills that will prepare them for competitive high schools and colleges, as well as more opportunities to engage in diverse extracurricular experiences.
Power to Lead: The Heads of MAIS are effective academic and organizational leaders who understand that great schools require great school leaders. They have control over their school budget and personnel. School leaders must retain their autonomy while taking advantage of collective wisdom and economies of scale. MAIS must identify, attract, develop, retain, and empower the very best facilitators (teachers), so that every MAIS students receives first-rate education.
Focus on Results: MAIS focus on high student performance on standardized tests and other objective measures. Just as there are no shortcuts, there are no excuses. Students are expected to achieve a level of academic performance. MAIS teachers focus on developing students who not only make high test scores, but who are also self-starting, critical thinkers who will succeed in college and the ever-changing world.
Choice and Commitment: MAIS students, parents, and faculty elect their school and voluntarily commit to its expectations. No one is required to attend or participate in the life of a MAIS. Rather, stakeholders make and uphold a pledge to the school and each other to put in the time and effort required to achieve success. Understanding MAIS families in ALL communities and helping them cope with obstacles to success is imperative.
In 1986, I Mohammed Anwar started tuition classes for elder students on honorary basis and found that there were children who are not enrolled in the schools.
By his continuous research, he found that low income children are far away from education and not getting exposure. He decided to start a school to serve education for the low income families. He started a school with 43 students in 1987 and motivated the parents to send their children to school. In 1994 the school has been recognised by the Government of Andhra Pradesh up to 7th standard. And up to 10th standard in 2000.
On 27th January 2000 Mr Anwar met with Professor James Tooley, professor in education policy, University of Newcastle, England (London). Mr Anwar inspired by Prof. James tooley by his contribution towards the education sector.
He motivated to the parents about the girl child education. As per community needs and demand he started run separate classes for girls. MAIS seen the transformation in the community though school by providing quality education. In 2009 MAIS announced its expansion plan to develop and sustain a seamless Nursery to 10th Class network of 8 schools throughout the Telangana state and serving about 4,000 students from low income families. MAIS planning to extend its services to all over the Telangana and other states to establish 50 schools by 2028.
